I reached out here because I was desperate and didn’t know who to turn to. I had been searching on Google and found this wonderful team. Even though I was still very apprehensive, I decided to trust them and share my despair. To my surprise, I was warmly welcomed by the counselors and received all the guidance I needed. I was quickly referred to the appropriate place, where I was also treated with great care, and I was able to have my abortion in about a week. It was a very positive experience, with kind support and without judgment.
I decided to have an abortion because I don’t feel ready to have another baby. They inserted a copper IUD incorrectly, and I got pregnant. My baby was born six months ago, I had postpartum depression, and it’s still hard to feel like I’m doing things right. I don’t think a new baby deserves all the stress from work, a small child, and a complicated relationship. The baby’s father didn’t want the pregnancy either. After the abortion, I felt very guilty. I’m still sad about what happened because I tried to take care of myself and this still happened. I didn’t know what to do or where to go because abortion is illegal in my country. I found this page, and they helped me a lot and gave me contacts to make this a safe process, especially because I had the IUD and that complicated things. If you’re in a similar situation, the best thing is to talk about it and cry as much as you need to let the grief out. I don’t think this is easy for anyone, especially if you’re a first-time mom. Also, it’s better to be well informed about contraceptive methods and their side effects... I learned that you have to visit several doctors to get different opinions and inform yourself better. The copper IUD was inserted at my public health provider very soon after my C-section and didn’t protect me for even six months, and it caused this situation that I will never forget.
It was amazing to know that even in a country where we are told we have no choice, there are people out there that still believe in a persons right to choose what to do with their life. Keep up the great work!
Fear was the first feeling I had when I found out I was pregnant. But after I contacted safe2choose, they made me feel safe and confident that they would guide me through the process. The process was very private and easy, and the counselors truly gave me the attention I needed. I am very grateful to them. Be sure that they will take good care of you, no matter where you are. You are the one to decide, but you will never be alone.
Hello, my story is perhaps more unusual than most of the ones here. I'm married, a mother of one child, and I have a wonderful husband. I had cancer and became pregnant under many circumstances—so much fear and life complications—having a pregnancy at this moment was overwhelming. Cancer is very expensive in my country, and fear also played a big role. These things led me to undergo the procedure clandestinely. I searched on social media and found a very kind girl who sold me the pills. We met, and she gave me 8 pills because apparently, I was only 6 weeks along. I got home and waited, but fear wouldn’t let me do it. I waited a couple of days hoping for a miracle—two more pregnancy tests, and both were still positive. I felt like a criminal hiding the pills, but since I take so many medications, no one noticed. Then came the day. I waited for my son to come back from school, placed 4 pills under my tongue, and waited. Symptoms began about half an hour later. I went to the bathroom and was bleeding. I think I had a panic attack—my heart was racing, I tried to calm myself, and I started shivering badly. Then I fell asleep and woke up with a fever. My husband got worried and stayed with me. The pain was intense, hard to describe. I am a mother, but my son was born by C-section, so I never had a contraction. I think this was what it felt like. Night came, but I didn’t take the second dose—fear again. I was terrified the symptoms would get worse and I’d die right there. So I decided to wait. Days passed, I kept bleeding, passing lots of clots, but nothing more. After 4 days the pain was unbearable, and I asked my husband to take me to the clinic. Following the advice of the girl who sold me the pills, I said I thought I was pregnant and was having a miscarriage. They did an ultrasound—there was a live embryo, but with a very low heartbeat. The doctor didn’t give me anything, just said “it’s 50/50, we wait.” And so I went home to live the worst torment of my life. Unexplainable pain. And now I’m waiting—either the embryo dies and my body expels it, or they do a surgical procedure. In conclusion, I believe what happened to me is because I had no guidance—here in my country it’s a crime. I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. I hope that when you go through it, you do it as advised and aren’t held back by fear—because I still could take the 4 remaining pills, but I don’t have the courage. I just wait for a miracle so I can move on with my life.
Hello, I would like to share my testimony, beginning with infinite gratitude to the safe2choose team. From the very first moment I wrote to them, they accompanied me, offered me support and accurate information. At all times I felt held and supported by them. We exchanged several emails, and in all of them they responded to my questions with love and patience—just as they stayed attentive to me throughout the entire process, helping me do it in a safe place, from a safe space, with the right information. Luckily, everything went quite well. I am infinitely grateful for the work they do, allowing us to have these spaces in countries like mine, where you're not even allowed to question something as important as this decision. To go through it with accurate information and support is the most beautiful thing there is. Endless thanks.
