When Will My Period Start After Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) Abortion?

An in-clinic abortion method does NOT affect your future fertility. It is possible to conceive a few weeks after your procedure, even before you have a period. There are no indications that surgical abortion affects a woman’s ability to conceive when she is ready.

Abortion starts a new menstrual cycle, so your period should go back to normal four to six weeks after the abortion. A woman should have her period by eight weeks after the abortion.

If you’re not using birth control and you don’t get your period eight weeks after your abortion, call your doctor or health center. [1]
