Is abortion legal in the Philippines?

Abortion is illegal in the Philippines under the Revised Penal Code of 1930, but the management of post-abortion complications is allowed under RA 10354, RA 9710, RA 8344, and DOH AO 2018-0003 to ensure women receive necessary medical care. Around 1.1 million induced abortions occur in the Philippines each year, and this number was estimated to have risen by 14.6% in 2020. Each year, approximately 1,000 Filipino women die from complications related to these abortions. [1]
