Position: Web developer
Location: Anywhere, remotely
Contract Term: 1st June to 31st December.

The digital revolution is transforming how more than 4.5 billion people access sexual and reproductive health care and information. The increasing use of technology provides a unique opportunity to reach vulnerable populations that are excluded from traditional healthcare systems or burdened by geographic barriers, high costs, and stigma. Women and young people increasingly turn to the internet as the first touch-point for information, including guidance about reproductive health and abortion information.

Women First Digital (WFD) is an eHealth social enterprise comprised of three online platforms (descriptions below) that provide information and counseling services on safe abortion, contraception and SRHR. At WFD, we believe in leveraging the power of the digital revolution to ensure that all women, regardless of where they live, have access to a safe abortion option. Through these platforms we connect women all around the world to accurate information, allowing them to make informed decisions about comprehensive abortion care and services.

  • safe2choose.org connects women all around the world to accurate and individualized information on abortion, so that they can have a safe abortion where, when, and with whom they feel most comfortable. Our team includes multilingual counselors, medical doctors, and experts in the field of public health and international development.
  • HowToUseAbortionPill.org (also known as PinkShoes.org in regions of the world where criminalization or stigma make abortion resources inaccessible)
    HowToUse is a one-stop global resource for safe abortion, providing simple instructions on how to use medical abortion pills. HowToUse also provides abortion eLearning courses, country-specific abortion information and is currently translated into 27 languages.
  • Findmymethod.org shares information on contraception that is easy to understand, comprehensive, and globally representative.

We are looking for a Web Developer for our safe2choose.org platform.

Overall Objectives:

  • Understand the needs of the counselling and referral departments to automation.
  • Strict adherence to the security and data management policies defined
  • Availability to respond in emergency situations
  • Provide regular progress updates
  • Adhere to the technical requirements that are provided for the project
  • Freshwork:
    • Maintain and develop Freshwork tools and APIs to link to our current website.
    • Produce well-written code using the best software development practices.
    • Integrate various back-end services and databases.
    • Maintain proper documentation of all the software changes.
    • Monitor and regularly backup data.
    • Ensure the proper functioning of the site and be available for any emergency troubleshooting.
  • Chatbot :
    • knowledge of data structure and algorithms
    • Develop and maintain chatbot flows and other automation
  • Stay up to date with growing best practices, technological advancements, and industrial advancements.
  • Uphold company policies and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned;


The Web Developer will work online from any location but should be in constant communication with all the Women First team. The work schedule will be defined according to the candidate’s availability and WFD needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in web programming or relevant fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of Freshworks or similar CRM platforms
  • Prior experience in building chatbot and automations systems
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong multitasking and organisation skills.
  • High threshold for working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keep up to date with the changing practices of web technology and software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields.
  • 1-3 years of experience in development and help desk support.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of web application development, Search Engine Optimisation, network diagnostics, and analytics tools.
  • Strong understanding of mobile, responsive web patterns and UX/UI design.Knowledge of technical and on-page SEO
  • Knowledge of Laravel and/or Gatsby and/or React
  • Knowledge of another spoken language
  • Previous experience working with telemedicine and/or reproductive health platform
  • Experience in cyber security threats
